Trinity Men's Lacrosse Wins At Colby

Box Score

Waterville, Maine - Senior Henry Coote made 13 of his 17 saves in the second half to help the Trinity College men's lacrosse team to a 9-6 win over the Colby College Mules in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play this afternoon at Harold Alfond Stadium.   Both teams are now 1-2 overall, while the Trinity Bantams are 1-1 in the NESCAC and the Mules are 0-2 in the conference.

The teams combined for seven goals in a fast-paced opening quarter. The game was tied at 5-5 with 12:42 left in the second quarter. The Mules did not score again until 10:39 left in the fourth quarter, while Trinity went almost 12 minutes without a goal until sophomore John Caraviello tallied with just 59 seconds left to halftime for a 6-5 margin.  The paced turned slow in the third quarter and both teams had good chances. Coote stopped eight shots in the third and his performance paid off when the Bantam rookie Ben Knaus scored two goals in the final 3:22 of the quarter to take an 8-5 lead into the fourth.  Colby's Max Cushman made it interesting when he scored unassisted with 10:39 left to cut the margin to two goals. However, Trinity freshman Matt Picard gave Trinity an insurance goal with 3:02 remaining.  The Mules had a two-man advantage with 1:47 left in the game, but could not get another goal.

Knaus finished with three goals and one assist, while senior captain Ryan DeSimone added one goal and one assist. Senior captain Matt McQuiston, sophomore Jack Walsh, and junior Jack Sharrio also had goals for the Bantams.  Sam Wasserman led the Mules with one goal and one assist. Kevin Seiler, Alex Rutan, Colton Michel, and Myles Smith also tallied.  First-year Scott Morgan was 14-for-19 on face-offs and had seven ground balls for Trinity. Colby's Matt Sindler was 4-for-7 on face-offs.  Freshman Matt Fleischmann led the Bantam defense with three caused turnovers, while junior Aidan Keohane had two caused turnovers and five ground balls.  Dylan Rothenberg had three saves in each quarter to finish with 12 for the Mules.  While Trinity had a 14-5 advantage in face-offs, Colby stayed in the game thanks to a turnover advantage. The Bantams had 23 turnovers to the Mules' 14.
