Box Score Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore attackman John Caraviello (Wellesley, Mass.) had three goals and two assist and senior goalkeeper Henry Coote (Wayne, Pa.) made 19 saves to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 16-6 victory over the visiting Babson College Beavers in men's lacrosse action this afternoon on Sheppard Field. Trinity improves to 2-4 and ends a two-game losing skid during which both losses came against top-20 teams on the road, heading into a conference game at top-ranked Tufts on Saturday, March 26 at 1 p.m. Babson falls to 1-5 with its third consecutive loss.
Trinity scored early and often, taking a 4-1 lead after one quarter on unassisted goals by four different players. Sophomore attackman Jack Sharrio (Marblehead, Mass.) got things started 2:09 into the contest for a 1-0 Bantam lead and senior captain attackman Seth Bird (Concord, Mass.) scored with 10 seconds left in the period. Shots were even, 10-10, in the opening stanza but Coote made saves on all eight Babson shots on goal. Trinity blanked the Beavers, 3-0, in the second frame, beginning with an unassisted tally by senior captain Ryan DeSimone (Saint James, N.Y.) with 12:07 on the clock. Caraviello fed Sharrio for a Bantam goal at the 9:33 mark and Trinity junior Stefan Pappas (Millstone, N.J.) assisted Caraviello on the last goal of the first half with 5:17 remaining. Caraviello added two of four Trinity goals in the opening 10:06 of the third quarter, before Babson senior Brendan Coan (Towson, Md.) ended a 38:36 scoring drought for the visitors with 1:22 left to make the score 11-2 after three periods. The Beavers rallied late to score five in the fourth quarter, but five different Bantams also scored to account for a 16-6 final count.
Trinity finished with a 52-to-35 shooting advantage, while first-year Scott Morgan (Grand Rapids, Mich.) won 14 of his 22 face-off opportunities for the Bantams. The teams combined for 7:30 worth of penalties, and Trinity converted on two of five extra-man chances to 1-for-6 for the Beavers. Trinity scooped six more ground balls than Babson, 33-27, but committed 16 turnovers to just 13 for the visitors. DeSimone joined Caraviello with Trinity hat tricks, while Sharrio finished with two goals and one assist. Morgan had a game-high nine ground balls, while senior defenseman Dan Badolato (Boonton, N.J.) and Coote picked up three ground balls apiece for Trinity. Junior Connor Flaherty (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) and sophomore Axel Brown (Little Compton, R.I.) had a goal and an assist each for the Beavers, while sophomore Jack O'Donoghue (Scituate, Mass.) totaled six ground balls. Junior LSM Zach Cataruzza (Guilford, Conn.) added three ground balls and two caused turnovers, and sophomore goalie Jordan Shapiro (Pleasantville, N.Y.) made 18 saves for Babson.
