Box Score Williamstown, Mass. - Senior tri-captain midfielder Martha Griffin (Exeter, N.H.) notched four goals, one assist, four ground balls, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 12-5 victory over the Williams College Ephs in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's lacrosse action this afternoon on Farley-Lamb Field. It was the season opener for both squads, as No. 2-ranked Trinity defeats the Ephs for the eighth game in a row.
After a scoreless first nine minutes, Griffin scored the first goal of the game at 20:56. The Ephs answered shortly when first year Emma Tenbarge scored at the 18:06 mark. Trinity scored two of the next three goals including a pair by sophomore attacker Allie Barrett (Concord, Mass.), and Griffin fed junior attacker Clare Lyne (Concord, Mass.) late in the first half to give the Bantams a 5-3 lead at the break.
The Bantams opened the second half with five unanswered goals in the first five minutes by five different players to establish a 10-3 lead. Williams rallied with two goals but the lone two goals of the final 18:29 were scoed by Griffin. Senior goalie Emily Mooney (New York, N.Y.) stopped seven of nine shots for Trinity in the second half, relieving sophomore Zoe Ferguson (Ridgewood, N.J.) who had made four saves in the opening stanza. First-year goalie Ana Alvarenga made seven saves for the Ephs.
