Late Rally Not Enough as Men's Lacrosse Falls to Connecticut College

Box Score

New London, Conn. – The Connecticut College Camels used nine goals by nine different players to knock off the Trinity College men's lacrosse team, 9-6, on a chilly Wednesday night in New London. Trinity outscored the Camels 3-0 in the fourth quarter but it was not enough to erase the deficit as the Bantams currently sit at 2-7 overall and 1-5 in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action with the loss. Connecticut College improves to 6-4 and 2-3 in conference play.

Trinity struck first in the first quarter as freshman Scott Morgan (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) won the opening faceoff which led to a goal from sophomore John Caraviello (Wellesley, Mass.), assisted by senior captain Ryan DeSimone (St. James, N.Y.). The Camels answered with five consecutive scores by Pierce DellaFera (Lattingtown, N.Y.), Derek Bertolini (Killingworth, Conn.), Penn Sesnaoui (Bedford, N.Y.), Jordan Foster (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Tucker Mscisz (Topsfield, Mass.) to take a commanding 5-1 lead, one that they did not relinquish for the rest of the game. Trinity halted the run with 2:36 to play in the first when senior captain Michael McQuiston (Greenwich, Conn.) ripped a low shot through the five-hole of Camel goalie Bobby Bleistein (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to four. Connecticut College scored three unanswered goals in the second quarter to extend its lead to 8-2 on scores from Ross Thompson (Mahopac, N.Y.), Maximilian King (Andover, Mass.), and PJ Kelleher (Walpole, Mass.).

Both teams found the back of the net once in the third quarter as Trinity freshman Ben Knaus (Ross, Calif.) scored the first of his three goals before a Camel goal by Wyatt Thompson (Redding, Conn.) made it a 9-3 game entering the final quarter. Trinity gained a man-up advantage early in the fourth that DeSimone made good on as he fired a ball past Bleistein to chip into the Connecticut College lead. Knaus netted his second goal off a Camel turnover when senior capain Seth Bird (Concord, Mass.) passed it to Knaus from behind the goal that made it a 9-5 game with over 10 minutes to play. Knaus's third goal at the 8:47 mark cut the deficit to three but that was the last score for either team as the Camels killed clock the rest of the way to hold on for the 9-6 victory.

Trinity returns to action on Saturday as the team travels to Rhode Island to take on Roger Williams. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
