Box Score Waterville, Maine - The Trinity College women's hockey team scored a power play goal early in the third period and added an insurance goal seven minutes later in a 3-2 victory over the Colby College Mules on Friday evening in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's hockey action at Alfond Rink. The Bantams improve to 3-10-2 overall and 2-5-1 in the NESCAC while Colby falls to 0-14-3 overall and 0-10-1 in the league. The two teams play again Saturday at 3 p.m. in the second game of the weekend doubleheader.
The Bantams scored first goal of the night on a two-on-one led by classmates Kelcie Finn (Weymouth, Mass.) and Melissa Maffeo (Melrose, Mass.). Finn started the play with a steal near center ice and quickly got the puck to Maffeo in transition. Maffeo slid the pass back to Finn near the crease for the score. Mule junior Bella Papapetros (North Andover, Mass.) scored her first of the season for Colby with just 1:17 left in the period via an assist from Kailey Buxbaum (Gloucester, Mass.) to tie the game at 1-1 .
Trinity took a power play into the third period and made it count with a big goal as sophomore forward Lindsay Miller (Manhasset, N.Y.) won a scrum near the Bantam blue line and hit junior Tashsa Adams (Reston, Va.) with a pass in front of the Mule blue line. Adams skated in and ripped a shot for the goal to take a 2-1 lead, one the Bantams did not relinquish.
The Bantams scored their third goal just 24 seconds after a Colby power play ended in the third period which would make the difference. Trinity scored on a transition play when Finn came up with the main assist after pushing the puck over to classmate Hannah Oganeku (Castle Pines, Colo.) on the left side for the score. Colby scored on a goal by Cassidy Holzer (Minneapolis, Minn.) with under 10 seconds to play in the game, but it was not enough for the comeback as the Bantams pulled away with the win.
