Box Score Hoboken, N.J. - Junior attackman Abby McInerney (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) scored three times to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 6-5 victory over the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks in women's lacrosse action this evening. Trinity, ranked No. 7 in the nation, built a 6-3 lead and held off a late Duck rally to improve to 7-1 with their third Victory in a row. Stevens drops to 5-2 with its second consecutive setback and its second one-goal loss to the Bantams in as many years.
The game was tied 2-2 with 6:26 left in the first half, after senior tri-captain midfielder Karly Simpson (South Hadley, Mass.) fed McInerney for one goal and scored a second to offset two Duck goals both assisted by Mariel Haubrich. Senior tri-captain attacker Clare Lyne (Concord, Mass.) and McInerney both scored inside the final minute before the break to give Trinity a 4-2 lead.
Mackenzie Metzler scored for Stevens 6:13 into the second stanza, but McInerney won the ensuing draw and then scored her third goal from Lyne just 13 seconds later. A free-position goal by Bantam junior midfielder Allie Barrett (Concord, Mass.) made the score, 6-3, with 19:24 on the clock, and the score remained the same for 17:30 before Kyra Bednarski scored at the 1:51 mark and fed Julianna Ricci for another goal with 36 seconds left to play. Bantam sophomore attacker Brook Swan (Wellesley, Mass.) won the draw, Trinity's 10th draw control of 13 in the game, and the visitors ran out the clock. Junior Zoe Ferguson (Ridgewood, N.J.) had six saves in goal for the Bantams and Stephanie Schnelzer had seven for the Ducks.
