Box Score

Hartford, Conn. - Senior tri-captain midfielder Karly Simpson (South Hadley, Mass.) and junior Kiley Coffey (West Newbury, Mass.) scored five times each to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 19-10 victory over the visiting Tufts University Jumbos in the quarterfinals of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament.  The Bantams, ranked No. 11 nationally and seeded No. 3 in the tournament field, improve to 13-3 and advance to the NESCAC Semifinals for the eighth year in a row, while Tufts drops to 10-6.  Trinity will face No. 2-seeded Hamilton in its semifinal game next Saturday at Midldebury, and the finals will be Sunday, May 6 at Middlebury.

Trinity jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first 11 minutes, as Simpson scored the first three goals of the game in a 4:32 span followed by two-straight tallies by senior tri-captain attacker Clare Lyne (Concord, Mass.) and the final goal of the run came off the stick of junior midfielder Abby McInerney (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) from classmate Allie Barrett (Concord, Mass.).  Tufts freshman attacker Emily Games (Wayne, Pa.) scored twice in a row midway through the first half, but Simpson scored her fourth goal of the half from junior attacker Grace O'Donnell (Yarmouth, Maine) with 13:28 on the clock to make it, 7-2.  The Jumbos pulled to within three goals at the break thanks to and free-position shots by sophomore Cecily Freliech (Wilton, Conn.) and rookie midfielder Margaret Chase (Providence, R.I.).

Freliech opened the second stanza with a goal to cut the Trinity lead to a pair, but the Bantams broke the game open with five goals in a row including three by Coffey and two off assists by senior attacker Emma Malicki (Loudonville, N.Y.).  The teams traded goals twice over the next seven minutes, but two more Bantams goals by Coffey and one each by junior Jenny Cook (Manhasset, N.Y.) and Lyne put it out of reach.
