Brunswick, Maine - The Trinity College men's lacrosse team fell to the Bowdoin College Polar Bears, 10-7, on Saturday afternoon in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) matchup at Whittier Field. The loss drops the Bantams to 3-5 overall and 0-4 in conference play while the Polar Bears improve to 6-2 and 3-2 in league play. Trinity will head to New London next to battle Connecticut College at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening.

The teams traded goals in the opening period, with Bowdoin's game-opening tally from Matthew Crowell being answered by consecutive goals from Trinity junior Ben Knaus (Ross, Calif.) and sophomore Andrew Collins (Brookfield, Conn.). The Polar Bears evened the score on a Kendall Rogers goal with 10 seconds left in the first quarter to make it 2-2 after the first 15 minutes.

Bowdoin took the lead for good in the second quarter, getting goals from Brett Kujala and Jeff Powers, just 16 seconds before the break, to take a 5-3 edge into halftime. Bantam junior Max DeLaMater (Irvington, N.Y.) scored his seventh goal of the season in the quarter, a man-up tally, to keep Trinity within striking distance.

After Crowell opened the scoring in the third quarter for the Polar Bears, Trinity drew within one goal as Knaus and sophomore Matt Gardiner (Potomac, Md.) found the back of the net within a two-minute span to make it a 6-5 game in Bowdoin's favor. The Polar Bears answered again with goals from Shawn Daly and Tim Bulens to carry an 8-5 lead into the fourth.

Trinity came within two goals on two occasions in the fourth, but could get no closer as a Donal Mullane goal with 1:43 remaining put the game away for Bowdoin. Trinity sophomore Ben Ferrucci (Essex, Conn.) and rookie Drew Kozub (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored but the Polar Bear defense held off a late Trinity rally to come away with the three-goal victory.

Bowdoin goalie John Young finished with 14 saves while Trinity senior tri-captain Woody Hamilton (Williamstown, Mass.) made ten saves. Bowdoin owned a 41-28 advantage in shots and 25-17 edge in ground balls for the game. Junior Scott Morgan (Grand Rapids, Mich.) led the squad with five ground balls off of six faceoff wins while senior defender Matthew Barker (Sudbury, Mass.) added three ground balls.
