Box Score Waterville, Maine - The Trinity College men's lacrosse team scored seven goals in the second half after being down, 6-2, at halftime, but ultimately fell, 10-9 in the final two minutes to the Colby College Mules on Saturday. Trinity falls to 4-9 on the year and 1-8 in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play while Colby improves to 6-6 overall and 3-6 in league play.
Junior Teddy Myers (Washington, D.C.) led Trinity with two goals and one assist. Classmate Ben Knaus (Ross, Calif.) added one goal and one assist, while rookie Drew Kozub (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored twice. Troy Hanlon (New Vernon, N.J.), Spencer Mehm (South Hamilton, Mass.), Jack Ricciuti (Norwell, Mass.) and Ben Ferrucci (Essex, Conn.) also had goals.
Colby face-off man Joe Paolatto was 12-for-22 on draws and had a game-high seven ground balls. He won all six of his draws in the third quarter. Senior captains Brad McCarthy and Graham Lian both had three caused turnovers for Colby. John Pappas added two caused turnovers and four ground balls. Nick Percarpio and Will Erwin each had three ground balls.
Senior Brian Crowe (Cranbury, N.J.) led Trinity with three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Alexander Notman (Wellesley, Mass.) and senior captain Ryan Tassan (Cold Spring Harbor) both had three ground balls.
Both teams had big scoring runs in the game, with Colby netting six straight goals at one point. The Bantams later scored five in a row to tie the game at 9-9. After the teams battled to a 2-2 tie after a quarter, Colby scored all four goals in the second quarter to take a 6-2 halftime margin. The Mules made it six straight goals when Dietrick and Hassan scored in the first 3:04 of the third quarter to help Colby take an 8-2 lead.
Kozub and Knaus scored for the Bantams to cut the margin to 8-4, but Dietrick tallied with 4:44 remaining in the third quarter for a 9-4 lead after three. The Bantams had five different players score goals in their comeback. Mehm scored just 54 seconds into the final quarter to get Trinity some momentum. Ricciuti, Hanlon, Ferrucci, and Myers scored from 9:23 to 4:38 to knot the game at 9-9. Both teams had opportunities to take the lead until Hassan somehow squeezed a pass into Brady, who turned, leaped, and scored from 10 yards out with 1:32 to go for the game-winner.
