Women's Lacrosse Runs Away With Win at Stevens

Box Score

Hoboken, N.J. - Five different Bantams found the back of the net multiple times as the Trinity College women's lacrosse team defeated the Stevens Institute of Technology, 16-6, on Wednesday night at DeBaun Athletic Complex in Hoboken. No. 12-ranked Trinity improves to 9-4 on the year while the Ducks fall to 6-8. The Bantams return to action on Saturday for a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) battle in Maine versus Colby.

Trinity took a 5-2 lead into the half before exploding for 11 second half goals to run away with the ten-point win. Junior Annie Lyman (Excelsior, Minn.), sophomore Kendall Milligan (Needham, Mass.) and rookies Lilianna Khosrowshahi (Briarcliff, Manor, N.Y.) and Ellie Kirkpatrick (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) all scored twice on the evening while sophomore Sophie Berger (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) tied a game-high with three goals. Milligan also assisted on three scores while Kirkpatrick and Khosrowshahi recorded a pair of helpers each.

Trinity first-year Addie Newsome (Winnetka, Ill.) picked up her first career win between the pipes, making five saves in nearly 40 minutes of action. Fellow first-year Anna Costello (Milton, Mass.) helped lead the defense with four caused turnovers and four ground balls while junior tri-captain Sarah Montalbano (Huntington, N.Y.) led the squad with three draw controls.

Stevens led for a good portion of the first half, scoring the game's first goal and later answering Trinity's first goal of the game with another to take a 2-1 lead with ten minutes left in the half. The lead lasted only until a goal by senior tri-captain Mary French (Gloucester, Mass.) with 9:33 showing on the board that ignited a 4-0 run for Trinity to end the half.

The second half was all Trinity as the visitors took 18 shots to Stevens' seven. Kyra Bednarski scored a man-down goal, one of three goals for her on the evening, to open the stanza, but the Bantams roared back with five unanswered to open a commanding, 10-3 advantage. Stevens scored three-straight starting at the 12:35 mark, cutting the Trinity lead to 10-6, however the Bantams finished the game on a 6-0 run which proved too much for the Ducks.
