Box Score Hartford, Conn. - The Trinity College men's lacrosse team dropped its regular season finale, 21-7, on Wednesday evening to the Amherst College Mammoths at Jessee/Miller Field in Hartford. The Bantams end the regular season with an 8-7 overall record and 3-7 mark in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) while Amherst, ranked No. 3 in the country, improves to 13-2 on the year and 8-2 in the conference. Trinity has locked up a spot in the NESCAC Championship Tournament as the No. 8 seed as they will face the top-seeded Tufts University Jumbos on Saturday in Medford. The Bantams return to the post-season for the first time since the spring of 2012.
Colin Minicus (Darien, Conn.) led the Mammoths with three goals and four assists while Ethan Kazmierski (Medford, N.J.) and Jon Coffey (Summit, N.J.) both tallied three scores as well. 14 different Amherst players scored as the visitors finished the night with a whopping 46 shots on goal and scooped up 34 ground balls to Trinity's 22. Amherst's Dylan Finazzo (Bohemia, N.Y.) and Juan Gonzalez (Sarasota, Fla.) combined for 15 faceoff wins.
Trinity was led by sophomore Drew Kozub (Hopkinton, Mass.) who had two goals and an assist while junior Ben Ferrucci (Essex, Conn.) and rookie Connor McCulloch (Alexandria, Va.) both added a pair of goals as well. Senior Alex Notman (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) finished with two caused turnovers and three ground balls defensively, while classmate Greg Barletta (Canton, Mass.) recorded a career-high 25 saves in net. Senior Scott Morgan (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) led the Bantams with 15 wins at the faceoff dot to go along with six ground balls.
Amherst outscored the Bantams, 6-2, in the first quarter and never looked back, opening up a 14-6 lead at the half. Minicus scored twice in the first quarter before assisting on a pair of goals in the second. The scoring subsided in the third quarter with only three total tallies, including one by Trinity first-year Luke Valentino (Little Silver, N.J.). The fourth quarter was all Amherst though, as the guests scored five unanswered to run away with the 21-7 victory.
