Morency Scores as Men's Soccer Falls to Bowdoin

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. — The Trinity College men's soccer team found the back of the net for the first time in three games, but couldn't get past Bowdoin on Saturday, falling at home 5-1. Freshman Joshua Morency (Pembroke, N.H.) scored his first collegiate goal in the 22nd minute, highlighting the Bantams in the setback.

It took Bowdoin just 13 minutes to get on the scoreboard, putting the game's first goal on the scoreboard in exciting fashion. Senior Jason Oliver (San Rafael, Calif.) shot a laser off the crossbar that nearly landed over the line; sophomore Charlie Ward (San Fransisco, Calif.) didn't give up on the play, and crashed the net. He was able to one-time the rebound past the diving hands of sophomore goalkeeper Everett Lyons (Southport, Conn.) to give the visitors the lead.

Just ten minutes later, the Bantams leveled the score. On a feed from senior Max Cottrell (Dover, Mass.), freshman Joshua Morency (Pembroke, N.H.) made a run through the six-yard box, and was able to one-time it into the back of the net for Trinity's first goal in three games.

In the 29th minute, sophomore Matt Uek (Westwood, Mass.) broke the stalemate. After a scrum inside the box, Uek was able to poke the ball away from two Trinity defenders and Lyons and tuck the ball inside the back of the net.

The Polar Bears tacked on another in the 30th minute, earning a penalty kick after a takedown inside the box. Sophomore Ian Strudwick (Lake Forest, Ill.) took the penalty chance, slotting up into the right side of the net to give the visitors a two-goal lead.

The Polar Bears added two more in the 75th and 77th minute, seeing tallies from junior Max McPherron (Weston, Mass.) and sophomore Brian Bae (San Diego, Calif.), quickly giving Bowdoin a 5-1 lead.

Junior relief goalkeeper Andrew Clark (Short Hills, N.J.) made six saves in the second half, giving up two goals in 45 minutes; Lyons took the loss, allowing three goals. Bowdoin won out every statistical category, with a 10-2 corner kick differential and a 15-3 shot differential.

Trinity looks to bounce back next Saturday, traveling to the top-ranked team in the country in Tufts. Kick-off is slated for 2:30 p.m.
