Box Score Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College men's lacrosse program picked up its first win of the 2020 season, netting 12 goals en route to a 12-7 victory at Curry College Wednesday evening. Junior Jack Cahill (Medfield, Mass.) and sophomore Connor McCulloch (Alexandria, Va.) both earned their first career hat tricks in the win.
Trinity (1-1) handed Curry its second loss of the season, playing in its first road contest of 2020. After competing in its first non-league matchup, the Bantams will travel to Bates this Saturday for a 1 p.m. start against the Bobcats.
Controlling every statistical category, the Bantams led in total shots (54-26), faceoffs won (15 of 23), ground balls (43-22) and turnovers (14; Trinity turned Curry over 24 times). First-year Patrick Grimes (Morristown, N.J.) earned his first career win between the pipes, making 10 saves on 17 shots.
The Bantams struck early, piling on three first quarter goals; first-year Jackson Trimmer (Stamford, Conn.) scored just 26 seconds into action before Cahill followed up less than a minute later to take a quick 2-0 lead. Sophomore Reid McDonald (Aldie, Va.) picked up his second of the season late in the frame, giving the Bantams a steady lead.
Curry's Dane Hanson cut the lead down to two early in the second period, but four straight Bantam tallies followed; sophomore Connor McCulloch (Alexandria, Va.) notched two, while first-year Andrew Fearey (Duxbury, Mass.) and Drew Kozub (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored their first of the season to make it 7-1 going into halftime.
Cahill and McCulloch both scored within 40 seconds of one another to start the third, quickly making it 9-1 at the 13:20 marker of the frame. Sophomore John Stookey (Middletown, R.I.) and first-year Thomas Mara (Irvington, N.Y.) both registered their first goals of the season before Hanson broke Trinity's eight-goal streak. Colonel Jake Stebbins added to the home team's score, making it 11-3 after three quarters.
Cahill was the lone Bantam to score in the fourth quarter, but the damage had been done; Curry scored four goals inside the final ten minutes of the contest, but the Bantams comfortably controlled the contest, winning 12-7.
