Trinity Softball Weekend Recap, April 20th-21st

HARTFORD, Conn. -  The Trinity College Softball team embarked on a four game weekend with back-to-back conference double headers. The Bantams started the weekend hosting the Colby College Mules splitting the day, then traveled to Middlebury, VT on Sunday splitting the day with the Panthers.

Bantams rise to an 18-11, 8-5 NESCAC season, while the Mules own a 12-14 (4-6 NESCAC)and the Panthers sit 15-11(8-6 NESCAC) on their season.

Colby Game One Key Takeaways: Trinity, 5-2

  • After a quiet first inning, the Bantams opened up in the second, scoring three runs. Lizzie Nelson singled up the middle to drive in Erin Steed, while Taylor Mikolajczak was walked with the bases loaded, bringing in Makenna True for the Bantams' second run. The final run of the inning was scored due to a passed ball that advanced all runners, allowing Emily Goddard to cross the plate.

  • In the fourth inning, Colby notched their first run of the game off a double, narrowing the score to 3-1.

  • With the bases loaded in the fifth, Erin Steed hit a single into the gap between second and right center, bringing in Trinity's fourth run (4-1).

  • The Mules' Burnham flew out to Abby Alper in center field, where the senior attempted to catch the runner advancing home, but threw it to the backstop, allowing the Mules to score their second run. Trinity was able to collect the ball and halt remaining runners at their bases.

  • A massive hit from Taylor Mikolajczak in the sixth inning tied the score at 7-7 as the junior tripled with the bases loaded.
