Hat Tricks by Zito and Denious Led the Bantams Flock Over Mules, 12-7

HARTFORD, CONN–– The Trinity College Women's Lacrosse Team defeated Colby College 12-7 on Saturday in a crucial matchup for seeding in the NESCAC. The Bantams outshot the Mules 33-15 on the day and caused 12 turnovers en route to the victory. Trinity moves to 11-4 (6-3 NESCAC) while Colby falls to 8-6 (4-6 NESCAC).  

How it Happened
1st Quarter
 

  • Grace Denious put the Bantams ahead 1-0 on a free position two minutes into action.  

  • Kaeley Zito came off a pick and fired a laser to put Trinity up 2-0 before Colby answered with two of their own to even the game. 

  • On the fastbreak, Kelsey Restivo found a curling Sarah Marvin who finished to put the Bants ahead 3-2 going to the second. 

2nd Quarter  

  • Colby tied it up at three before Denious found a lane dodging downhill and put it home for a 4-3 lead. 

  • A forced shot clock violation led to a fastbreak goal on the other end, where Marvin hit Alex Lesko in front of the net for the goal.  

  • Kelsey Restivo gave Trinity a 6-3 lead with three minutes remaining before Colby responded a minute later. 

  • Denious had a chance on a free position with 10 seconds remaining but Colby came away with the stop to leave it at 6-4 going to the half. 

3rd Quarter 

  • Trinity pushed the advantage early when Denious ran it ahead and found Marvin for another goal.  

  • Colby snuck one in to make it 7-5 but Restivo and Lesko connected to bring the lead back to three. 

  • With just under two minutes left in the third Caroline Lally threw on a move and got to the net for a 9-5 Bantam lead.  

4th Quarter 

  • Colby scored two straight off bad bounces in front and had the chance to cut it to one on a free position but hit the post. 

  • Sam Hark tracked down the miss for possession before Zito skated past her defender for a 10-7 lead.  

  • Zito would secure her hattrick next time down before Denious topped off a hattrick of her own to secure a 12-7 Trinity win. 

Notable Performances 

Sam Hark led Trinity on defense causing four turnovers and scooping up four ground balls while Emily Ambrozy caused three turnovers to go with two ground balls. Denious led the offense with four points alongside three ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Zito, Restivo, and Marvin all tallied three points apiece. Ali MacDougall registered 5 saves in the win.  

Next Up 

Trinity will take on Amherst College this Wednesday who enters the matchup 12-1 (7-1 NESCAC). The Bantams are 12-6 all-time versus the Mammoths
