Ley and Weedon Lead Trinity Women's Soccer To Win at Conn. College

Hartford, Conn. - Freshman forward Jenny Ley (Warwick, R.I.) scored twice and sophomore goalkeeper Emily Weedon (Wellesley, Mass.) made four saves and recorded her second straight shutout to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 3-0 victory over the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rival Connecticut College Camels this afternoon on Tempel Green.  The Bantams improve to 6-4 overall and 2-4 in the league with their second win in a row, while the Camels slip to 4-6 overall and 0-6 in the NESCAC with their fourth straight loss.

Trinity broke a scoreless tie in the 27th minute on a free kick, when junior midfielder Lauren Olsen (Cheshire, Conn.) fed a cutting freshman forward Leigh Howard (Bethany, Conn.) on a rolling pass to the left of the goal and Howard punched the ball past Connecticut College junior keeper Jenna Ross (Longmeadow, Mass.).  Howard had nearly been knocked out of the game seconds earlier, after a collision in the middle of the field.  Weedon came out to make a key save on a Connecticut College breakaway in the final minutes of the first half to preserve the shutout.

In the second half, Ley erupted with two goals scored 2:40 apart. In the 66th minute, Trinity sophomore midfielder Morgan Sackman (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) worked her way free out of a crowd, creating a two-on-one situation on the right side of the net. Ley finished with a low shot to make it a 2-0 contest. With 21:51 remaining, Bantam freshman forward Shawna Altdorf (Brooklyn, Conn.) connected with Ley in almost the same spot of the previous goal near the right post and the Bantams had a 3-0 lead.

On the ensuing whistle, the Camels gained control and cycled the ball into Katelyn Driscoll (Peabody, Mass.) who tested Weedon with a low shot near the left post. Weedon dove and got her hands on the shot, pushing it to the end line to force a corner. Candice Clark (Queens, N.Y.) headed the try toward the goal but Weedon again came up with the save.  Trinity outshot Connecticut College, 20-7, and Ross stopped five shots for the Camels.
