Middlebury, Vt. - The Middlebury College Panthers scored three
goals in the first 14 minutes of the second half to come away with
a 3-2 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small
College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) field hockey action this
afternoon on Kohn Field. Trinity, ranked No. 12 in the
nation, falls to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in the NESCAC, while the
Panthers, ranked No. 3 nationally, improve to 7-1 overall and 4-1
in the league.
Trinity took a 1-0 lead 13:26 into the game as sophomore
Robyn Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) found
junior Carrie Wolcott (Hamilton, Mass.) in
transition, and Wolcott finished nicely to give the
Bantams the advantage. The game remained at 1-0 until Middlebury
scored twice in less than a minute early in the second half to take
a 2-1 lead.
Allison Grant made a quick pass in front to Chase Delano, who
found the back of the cage to knot the game at one. Delano struck
again 59 seconds later, gathering the ball before turning and
scoring quickly from the stroke line. Grant gave the Panthers
some breathing room at 49:04 as she took an up-pass from Delano and
scored for the 3-1 advantage. Wolcott and Williams hooked up again
for Trinity with just 40 seconds remaining to make it a 3-2 final.
