Hartford, Conn.. - The Trinity College Bantams picked up their
first win of the season after defeating the Hamilton College
Continentals 4-1 this afternoon in New England Small College
Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's ice hockey action at Williams
Rink. The Bantams improve to 1-1 with the win, while the
Continentals drop to 1-1 early in the year.
Trinity took an early lead on a goal by senior Chris Powers
(Lynnfield, Mass.), putting the Bantams up 1-0. With
two seconds remaining in the first period, Hamilton was able to
answer, knotting the game at one apiece after Jerome
Wallace (Taft, Conn.) was able to slip the puck past
Bantam sophomore goalkeeper Wesley Vesprini (Lexington,
Mass.), the only goal Vesprini would allow on the
day.
The Bantams quickly regained the lead in the second period when
junior Ryan Crapser (Paxton, Mass.) scored just
1:44 into the period, giving the Bantams a 2-1 edge. Later in
the period, Trinity distanced themselves further by scoring two
additional goals, the first off the stick of senior co-captain
Ryan Masucci (Winthrop, Mass.) and the second
coming from first-year defenseman Michael DeMayo (Seaford,
N.Y.), giving the Bantams a 4-1 advantage.
The scoreless third period was all the Bantams needed to secure the
victory, and the consistent Bantams defense made that possible,
allowing just four shots in the final period. Vesprini, who
stopped 24 shots on the afternoon, made an excellent glove save
with just under four minutes remaining in the game, eliminating
Hamilton's hopes of mounting a late rally.
Sophomore Mark Donovan (Pembroke, Mass.) made 21
saves for the Continentals. Trinity outshot Hamilton
25-22.
The Bantams return to action on Sat. Nov 29 at 4 p.m. in the
opening game of the Luce Thanksgiving Tournament at Connecticut
College against the Williams College Ephs.
