New London, Conn.. - The Connecticut College Camels scored five
first period goals en route to a 6-3 win over the Trinity College
Bantams this afternoon in the Championship game of the Douglas W.
Roberts Tournament at Dayton Arena. The Bantams fall to 2-2
with the loss, while the Camels improve to 3-2 after winning their
third straight game.
The flood gates opened early as Jordan Gray (Mississauga,
Ont.) scored 7:42 into the game, giving the Camels a quick
1-0 lead. Four Camels followed suit in the period to give the
Camels a 5-0 advantage, a lead they would not look back from.
The Bantams answered in the second period on a slap shot from just
inside the blue line off the stick of freshman defender
Michael DeMayo (Seaford, N.Y.), his first of two
goals in the game. Camel sophomore Sean Tuohy
(Salisbury Mills, N.Y.) quickly distinguished the flame,
as he buried a one-timer to re-gain the five-point advantage for
the Camels.
With just under three minutes remaining in the second, DeMayo
flipped the puck over the glove of junior goalkeeper Greg
Parker (Trenton, Ont.), and senior defender Chris
Diozzi (Belmont, Mass.) followed with one of his own in
the third period to cut the lead to 6-3. Though the Bantams
outscored the Camels 3-1 in the final two periods, the deficit was
too large to make up, as the Bantams ran out of
time.
DeMayo was a highlight for the Bantams, being named to the
All-Tournament team for his outstanding play this weekend.
Six different Camels scored in the match and Parker made 38 saves
to lead the Connecticut College surge. Parker was named
Tournament M.V.P. Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Garvin
(Norwalk, Conn.) made 14 saves and allowed three goals
after coming off the bench in the first period for Trinity.
