Henniker, N.H. - Senior Chris Powers (Lynnfield,
Mass.) and freshman Paul Jaskot (Methuen,
Mass.) each had two goals and two assists, as the visiting
Trinity College Bantams downed the New England College Pilgrims in
New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)/Eastern
College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East men's ice hockey action
this evening. The Bantams improve to 9-3 overall and 6-2 in
the NESCAC, while the loss Pilgrims, ranked No. 15 in the
nation, drop to the Pilgrims to 9-4 overall and 4-3 in the ECAC
East.
Trinity did not waste much time getting on the board as Jaskot
would net his first goal of the night assisted by Adam
Houli (Howell, N.J.) and Powers just 46 seconds into the
opening period. Trinity tacked on another goal late in the
first as Powers converted on a Trinity power-play opportunity
assisted by Houli and Jaskot at the 16:46 mark that sent the
Bantams into the first intermission up 2-0.
Powers put the Bantams up 3-0 at the 7:10 mark in the second
period as he stuffed in a loose puck assisted again by Jaskot and
Houli. The NEC offense woke up late in the second period as
Dylan Exton (Calagry, Alberta) scored off a pass
from Jared Mullen (Roanoke, Va.) and Pat
Melillo (Wallingford, Conn.) at the 17:37 mark.
NEC's Simon Laudon-Sorlin (Stockholm, Sweden)
netted another Pilgrim goal just under a minute later cutting the
Bantam lead to 3-2 heading into the final period.
The two teams battled through much of the third period scoreless
before Jaskot struck again with the Bantams' second
power-play goal of the evening at the 15:20 mark. The
Pilgrims fought their way back but the Trinity defense held strong
the rest of the way. Trinity sophomore goalie
Wesley Vesprini (Lexington, Mass.) finished
with 23 saves, and Aaron Harvey (Milford, Nova
Scotia) recorded 21 saves for the Pilgrims.
