Middlebury, Vt. - Sophomore forward Kim Weiss (Potomac,
Md.) scored both of her team's goals and junior
Isabel Iwachiw (New York, N.Y.) made 48 saves in
goal to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 2-2 tie in
overtime against the Middlebury College Panthers in New England
Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey
action this evening at Kenyon Arena. Trinity is
now 7-2-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the NESCAC, while the
Panthers, ranked No. 3 in the nation, are 7-1-3 overall and 5-1-2
in the league.
Middlebury outshot Trinity 48-14, but settled for the second
straight tie between the schools after a 2-2 stalemate last
January. The two teams meet again tomorrow at 3 p.m. Trinity
took a 1-0 lead early as a shot caromed off a defender to Weiss,
who tallied 8:34 into the game. Middlebury tied the game 15:33
into the second period, as Annmarie Cellino skated through several
defenders on her way to a shorthanded tally.
Trinity regained the lead just 1:03 into the third period as
Weiss scored on a breakaway. Middlebury was forced to pull
its netminder late for the extra attacker, with the advantage
paying off as the Panthers tied the game with just 13 seconds
remaining. Anna McNally made a nice feed from behind the net to
Randi Dumont, who scored from the high slot. Middlebury held
an 8-0 shots advantage in overtime, including a power play
opportunity, but could not net the game-winner. Lani Wright
ended the night with 14 saves for Middlebury.
