Waterville, Maine --- The Trinity College Bantams had five
players in double figures and made 25 free throws in the game in a
68-59 victory over the Colby College Mules in New England Small
College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's basketball action this
evening at Wadsworth Gymnasium. Trinity improves to 6-11
overall and 2-2 in the league with its first win in three games,
while Colby has its four-game winning streak snapped while
falling to 12-5 overall and 3-1 in NESCAC play.
Trinity came out strong and took an 11-3 lead when Ford nailed a
3-point shot with 13:23 to play in the first half. The Bantams
expanded the lead to 25-12 on a basket by sophomore
guard Jared Pimm (Chelmsford, Mass.) with
6:01 to play, but the Mules managed to cut the lead to 28-19 at the
break.
Trinity again started a half strong and pulled away to a 37-21
lead on two free throws by MacDougall with 16:31 to go. The Bantam
lead stayed over 10 points for most of the half. Colby got as close
as seven points when Gil Haylon (Wellesley, Mass.)
nailed a 3-point shot with 2:29 to play to make the score 60-53.
The Bantams hit eight free throws in the final two minutes to keep
the lead.
Sophomore guard Brian Ford (Bronx, N.Y.) and
Ian Fels (Miami, Fla.) both had 13 points for
Trinity, while classmate Salah Abdo (Chelsea,
Mass.) added 12 points, including 8-for-8 free throw
shooting in the second half. Bantam senior co-captain forward
Aaron Westbrooks (Dublin, Ireland) finished with
11 points, while sophomore forward Luke MacDougall
(Baldwinsville, N.Y.) had 10 points and eight
rebounds. Artie Cutrone (Garden City, N.Y.)
had 21 points and six assists to lead Colby.
