Hartford, Conn - First-year OH Danielle Isaman
(West Hartford, Conn.) collected a team-high 19 kills, two
aces, three blocks, and 13 digs to lead the Trinity College Bantams
to a 3-1 win over the visiting Wesleyan University Cardinals in New
England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) volleyball
action this evening at Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity improves to
10-6 overall and 4-2 in the NESCAC with its first win against
Wesleyan in seven matches, while the Cardinals fall to 8-11 overall
and 4-4 in the league with their second loss in a row.
Wesleyan won the first set, 25-19, with a 7-0 run late that
broke a 16-16 tie, but Trinity opened up a 9-3 lead in the second
set and extended to 19-10 before a late rally closed the final
score to 25-21 in the Bantams' favor. Trinity went ahead
early again in the third set, 8-3, and, 16-7, but the Cardinals
fought back and scored four in a row to pull within one at
23-22. The teams exchanged points before Bantam sophomore OH
Sarah Blagden (Charleston, S.C.) sent home the
set-clinching kill in a 25-23 win.
The fourth set was played evenly until Wesleyan scored three
straight points to take an 18-14 lead. Trinity answered with
five consecutive points to go ahead, 20-19, and the teams ended up
tied at 23-23 several minutes later. Sophomore MH
Kelly O'Brien (Pelham, N.Y.) gave the Bantams a
24-23 advantage with a successful block, and Isaman scored the last
two points of the match on kills to give Trinity a 26-24 win in the
fourth set.
Blagden finished with seven kills and 19 digs, while O'Brien
added eight kills and three blocks, and sophomore L
Alexandra Pell (San Diego, Calif.) notched a
team-high 21 digs. Sophomore S Jen Low (San
Francisco, Calif.) totaled 28 assists and 11 digs and
classmate Courtney Chaloff (Chestnut Hill, Mass.)
had four blocks for the Bantams. Casey Reed
(Manhattan Beach, Calif.) had 16 kills and Ellie
Healy (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) had 40 assists for the
Cardinals.
Also at Trinity tonight, Connecticut College improved to 16-4
overall and 6-2 in the NESCAC with a 3-1 win against Amherst.
The Lord Jeffs, which lost, 25-20, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21, falls to
15-4 overall and 4-2 in the league. Amherst and Wesleyan play
tomorrow morning at Trinity at 11 a.m. and the Bantams host the
Camels at 1:30 p.m. to complete this weekend's NESCAC play in
Hartford. Marissa DeMais (Hillsdale, N.J.)
had 46 assists and Amy Newman (Los Angeles,
Calif.) added 19 kills, 12 digs, and four aces for the
Camels. Rachel Yorke (Los Angeles, Calif.)
paced Amherst with 32 digs and Cristy Meier (San Anselmo,
Calif.) added 11 kills.
