Hartford, Conn. - Junior Marissa DeMais (Hillsdale,
N.J.) had 38 assists and five service aces to lead the
Connecticut College Camels to a 3-0 win over the Trinity College
Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
women's volleyball action this afternoon. In the earlier
NESCAC match at Trinity's Ray Oosting Gymnasium, the Amherst
College Lord Jeffs came back from a 2-0 hole to defeat the Wesleyan
University Cardinals 3-2. Connecticut College improves to 17-4 on
the year and 7-2 in the NESCAC, while Trinity falls to 10-7 on the
season and 3-2 in the league. Amherst is 16-4 overall and 5-2
in the league while Wesleyan slips to 8-12 on the season and 4-5 in
the league after the weekend.
Connecticut College held a tight 10-9 lead over Trinity in the
first set before going on a 9-2 run, sparking the way to a 25-19
win. The Camels did the same in the second set, holding a
close 9-7 lead before controlling the match the rest of the way,
earning a 25-16 win. Trinity held a 6-5 lead in the third
set, but the Camels regained the lead for good, and took care of
the match with a 25-17 win to seal the match. Sophomore Amy
Newman (Los Angeles, Calif.) had 16 kills for the Camels,
while sophomore Sarah Blagden (Charleston, S.C.)
and first-year Danielle Isaman (West Hartford,
Conn.) combined for 29 digs and 15 kills to lead the
Bantams.
Wesleyan took the first two sets against Amherst (25-19, 25-20),
but with the teams tied at 17-17 in the third set, Amherst took
control of the momentum with an 8-2 run en route to a 25-19 win.
Wesleyan jumped to a 9-4 lead in the fourth set, but Amherst
responded with an 18-3 run to propel the Lord Jeffs to a 25-18 win,
forcing a fifth set. The Lord Jeffs took care of things with a
15-10 win in the final set. Junior Katherine Jordan
(Los Altos Hills, Calif.) had 44 assists and sophomore
Cristy Meier (San Anselmo, Calif.) had 27 kills to
lead the Lord Jeffs.
