Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore Emma Nitzberg (Summit
N.J.) broke a scoreless tie in the 92nd minute
to lead the Wesleyan University Cardinals to a 1-0 overtime victory
over the Trinity College Bantams in women's soccer action this
afternoon on Campus Field. Trinity falls to 2-2-2 on the
season and 1-2-1 in the NESCAC with the loss, while Wesleyan
improves to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the league.
Trinity peppered 17 shots, but Wesleyan sophomore goalkeeper
Clare Colton (Montclair, N.J.) and first-year
Kate Connolly-Smithwick (Center Moriches, N.Y.)
combined to make eight stops and keep the Bantams out of the
net. Junior goalkeeper Emily Weedon (Wellesley,
Mass.) made 10 stops for the Bantams, allowing just the
one score which Nitzberg was able to trickle past the goal line for
the win.
The Bantams have gone to overtime in four games this season,
going 0-2-2 in those contests. Trinity has held its opponents
to just three goals in six games on the season, all three scores
coming in the teams two losses this year.
Trinity will host NESCAC rival Connecticut College on Sat., Oct.
10 at 11 a.m.
