Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore goalkeepers Lily Pepper
(Princeton Junction, N.J.) and Allie Horwitz
(Woodbridge, Conn.) combined for 17 saves to lead the
Trinity College Bantams and the visiting Amherst College Lord Jeffs
to a double overtime scoreless tie in the New England Small College
Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's soccer regular season finale
for both teams afternoon. Trinity closes the regular campaign
at 5-4-4 overall and 3-3-3 in the NESCAC, while the Lord Jeffs,
ranked No. 2 in New England and No. 11 in the nation, finish the
regular season at 11-2-1 and 7-1-1 in the league while having its
win streak stopped at six games.
Trinity finishes in a fourth-place tie with the Tufts University
Jumbos in the final NESCAC standings and the Bantams will play a
NESCAC Championship Quarterfinal game at Tufts on Sunday, Nov. 1 at
noon. Trinity tied Tufts on the road, 1-1, on Oct. 17, but
the Jumbos hold a tiebreaking edge on the Bantams with four
conference victories, and, therefore, earn the home game in the
league tournament. Amherst finished in second place in the
NESCAC and will host No. 7-seeded Wesleyan in its NESCAC
Quarterfinal game on Sunday, Nov. 1 at noon. Trinity will be
playing in its third straight NESCAC Championship Tournament on
Sunday and its sixth overall.
Pepper made seven saves and Horwitz had 10, while Trinity
outshot Amherst, 14-10. The Trinity defense has not allowed a
goal in 208 straight minutes, while Pepper, who has allowed just
three goals all season and has five shutouts, has not been score
upon in her last 201 minutes of play.
