Hartford, Conn. - Junior forward Jill Roloff (West
Seneca, N.Y.) scored two goals to lead the Trinity College
Bantams to their second straight win over the visiting SUNY
Cortland Red Dragons in women's ice hockey action this evening at
Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center.
Cortland State drops to 3-5 with its fourth straight loss.
The Bantams improve to 2-0 to start the young season.
Roloff got the scoring started 11 minutes into the game to give
the Bantams an early 1-0 lead. Cortland State sophomore
Danielle Scharf (Hopewell Junction,
N.Y.) answered for the Dragons with 4:30 remaining in the
first period to tie the game at 1-1. With just one second
remaining in the first period, the Bantams were able to regain the
lead with a goal by junior forward Kim Weiss (Potomac,
Md.), her first of the season.
Trinity came out aggressive in the second period, controlling
possession on the offensive end before setting up sophomore forward
Alexa Guglielmi (Rocky Hill, Conn.) for a goal
that would give the Bantams a 3-1 lead. Roloff would add her
second goal of the game midway through the second period to give
the Bantams a 4-1 lead. Cortland answered with a goal by
first-year Cara Latchum (Warrington, Penn.) to
keep the game within reach for the Dragons with 5:20 remaining in
the second period.
After a combined six goals were scored in the first and second
periods, the third was scoreless despite opportunities on both
ends. The Dragons were unable to capitalize on a two-person
advantage, frustrated by the Trinity power play defense midway
through the final period as Trinity would go on to seal the
victory.
First-year goalkeeper Sarah Sitcov (Arlington,
Va.) started the game for the Dragons, allowing two goals
in one period while making five saves. Sophomore goalkeeper
Katie Double (Farmington, N.Y.) finished the game
with 17 saves in two periods of relief for Cortland. Trinity
senior goalkeeper Isabel Iwachiw (New York, N.Y.)
made 13 saves in the game for the Bantams.
Trinity returns to action at NESCAC rival Connecticut College on
Sat., Nov. 28 at 3 p.m.
