Willimantic, Conn. - The visiting Trinity College Bantams
suffered a 77-74 loss in overtime against the Eastern Connecticut
State University Warriors in men's basketball action this
evening. Trinity falls to 1-2 with its second loss in a row,
while the Warriors improve to 3-0.
Trinity scored the final four points of regulation to force
overtime, then scored five straight points over the final two
minutes of overtime to tie the game at 74-74 on a three-point field
goal by junior guard Brian Ford (Bronx,
N.Y.) from the top of the circle with 24 seconds
left. Eastern missed a short jump shot with time running out by
Broderick Sawyer, but tipped the rebound to Nick Nedwick who banked
in a three-point field goal from the left side with 1.5 seconds
left to give Eastern a 77-74 lead. Trinity inbounded into the
backcourt but Ford stepped out of bounds in front of the Eastern
bench trying to save a bad pass as time ran out.
Trinity junior forward Luke MacDougall (Baldwinsville,
N.Y.) had a team-high 19 points and added eight rebounds,
while junior guard Ian Fels (Miami, Fla.)
contributed 15 points and four assists, and Ford had 11
points. Bantam sophomore center Chris Applegate (High
Point, N.C.) pulled down a team-high nine boards, but the
Warriors outrebounded Trinity, 49-40. Sawyer scored a
gaem-high 23 points for Eastern Connecticut.
