New London, Conn. - Junior forward Jill Roloff (West
Seneca, N.Y.) had a goal and two assists to lead the
visiting Trinity College Bantam women's hockey team to a 5-1 New
England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
victory over the Connecticut College Camels this
afternoon. Trinity improves to 3-0 and earns its first league
win, while the Camels drop to 0-3 overall and in the NESCAC.
The Bantams avenge a home loss to the Camels in the 2009 NESCAC
Quarterfinals last winter.
Sophomore forward Celia Colman-McGaw (Manchester,
Conn.) and junior defender Alexa Guglielmi (Rocky
Hill, Conn.) each contributed with a goal and an assist
for the Bantams, who scored three power-play goals in the
win. Ariel DiPasquale (Whitestone, N.Y.)
netted a third period goal for Connecticut College. Junior
Rachel Nelson (Denver, Colo.) and Samantha
Shuffenecker (Oswego, N.Y.) assisted on the score for
Connecticut College.
The Bantams capitalized on their first power play opportunity in
the opening period. Colman-McGaw scored on assists from Roloff and
Dom Di Dia (Studio City, Calif.) to make it a 1-0
game. With 7:23 remaining in the first, Trinity extended its lead
to two goals. Sara Christopher (Andover, Mass.)
denied Guglielmi on her initial scoring bid with one of her 19
saves in the game. But Roloff was able to collect the rebound on
the doorstep for the goal to make it a 2-0 game.
In the latter stages of the second period, Brigid
O'Gorman (Eden, N.Y.) set up Abby Hine (Madison,
Conn.) on a breakaway in a shorthanded situation. But
Isabel Iwachiw (New York, N.Y.) was able to make
the save from point-blank range. The Bantams regained control of
the puck and Kim Weiss (Potomac, Md.) netted the
third goal with 5:46 remaining in the middle period.
The Bantams added two more goals in the third period to build a
5-0 advantage and were able to hold on for the comfortable 5-1
win. Iwachiw had 36 saves in the victory for the visitors.
Amy Leichliter (Westchester, Pa.) had three saves
in relief of Christopher, as the Camels outshot the Bantams, 37-27.
