Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore Salah Abdo (Chelsea,
Mass.) scored 18 points to go along with seven assists,
four rebounds, and four steals to lead the Trinity College Bantams
men's basketball team to a 73-56 win over the Springfield College
Pride tonight on Stan Ogrodnik Court at Oosting Gymnasium.
Trinity improves to 4-3 while the Pride fall to 2-6 on the season.
The teams went back and forth for the opening five minutes of
the contest until the Bantams began to find separation after taking
a 10-9 lead on a jumper by sophomore Jon Pike (Exeter,
N.H.). The bucket started a 14-2 run, capped by a
deep three pointer from freshman Mick Distasio (Yarmouth,
Maine), giving Trinity a 24-11 lead midway through the
first half.
Springfield, down six at the half, kept within striking distance
of the Bantams for much of the second stanza, cutting the lead to
as few as four points before the Trinity offense would ice the win
by hitting their shots late in the game and converting their free
throw attempts.
Senior Pat Crean (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) scored
18 points and added seven rebounds and four assists for the
Pride. Pike finished the game with 13 points and seven
rebounds, while junior Brian Ford (Bronx, N.Y.)
also scored 13, including two treys. Junior Luke
MacDougal (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) scored nine points and
grabbed seven rebounds, while sophomore Chris Applegate
(High Point, N.C.) notched a game-high nine
rebounds.
Trinity will close the fall semester at home against Skidmore on
Fri., Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
