Brunswick, Maine - Trinity College Bantam netminder Wesley
Vesprini (Lexington, MAss.) made 22 saves as the Bowdoin College
Polar Berar men's ice hockey team lost at Sidney J. Watson Arena
for the first time, 3-0, to Trinity this evening. Trinity
improves to 15-6 overall and 12-5-0 in the New England Small
College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and Bowdoin falls 10-10-2
overall and 7-8-2 in the league.
Trinity controlled the pace of play in the opening period, but
Bowdoin's Richard Nerland kept his squad in the contest, stopping
all 15 shots he faced in the opening stanza. The Bantams were
finally able to break through early in the second frame as a nifty
give-and-go by Adam Houli (Howell, N.J.) and Ryan
Masucci (Winthrop, Mass.) at 2:33. Bowdoin responded well,
controlling the momentum for the remainder of the period, but saw
every chance stifled by Vesprini.
Bowdoin looked to draw even early in the third period, but hit
their second post of the day to remain one goal down. Trinity put
the game on ice late, as Chris Powers (Lynnfield,
Mass.) knocked home a loose puck for the visitors
with 3:33 remaining. William Burns (Livonia,
Mich.) added an empty-netter to close out the
contest. Nerland stopped 27 shots between the pipes for
Bowdoin. Trinity went 0-9 on the powerplay while Bowdoin went 0-4.
