Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore goalkeeper Wesley
Vesprini (Lexington, Mass.) made 18 saves to lead the No.
4-seeded Trinity College Bantams to a 3-1 win over the No. 5-seeded
Connecticut College Camels in their quarterfinal round game of the
New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's ice
hockey Championship Tournament this afternoon at Williams
Rink. Trinity will face the No. 1-seeded Amherst College Lord
Jeffs, who topped the No. 8-seeded Tufts University 4-1
today to advance in the tournament. Trinity, which won the
NESCAC Championship in 2008, will be on the road for the Amherst
match next week.
In today's game, Trinity sophomore forward Egor Petrov
((Novokuznetsk, Russia) gave the Bantams the lead midway
through the first period, one they would not give up. Trinity
opened the second period with a power play goal from senior
co-captain Ryan Masucci (Winthrop, Mass.), giving
the Bantams some breathing room and a 2-0 lead. Later in the
second period, Connecticut freshman Julien Boutet (Amos,
Quebec) took advantage of a power play himself and brought
his team within a goal and the score to 2-1.
In the third, Connecticut College came out attacking on the
offensive end, taking the first five shots of the period, but after
missing the opportunity to tie the game with a wide open net on a
rebound, momentum shifted back in Trinity's favor, and junior
Richard Hollstein (Pembroke, Mass.) capitalized on
a perfect pass from senior Riley Hicks (Calgary,
Alberta), putting the finishing touch on a one-timer that
would seal the 3-1 won for Trinity. |
Connecticut College junior goalkeeper Greg Parker (Trenton,
Ontario) made 16 saves before leaving the game due to
injury with just over five minutes remaining. He was replaced
in net by freshman Andrew Margolin (Mahwah, N.J.)
before the Camels pulled their goalkeeper for a late offensive
push. Today's match between the Bantams and the Camels was their
third meeting of the season, and Trinity's first win in the three
contests.
Trinity returns to action next Sat., Mar. 7, at Amherst
College. The game time is yet to be determined.
