Hartford, Conn. - Senior forward Christopher
Powers (Lynnfield, Mass.) scored two goals to lead the
Trinity College Bantams to a 3-0 win over the visiting Tufts
University Jumbos in New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC) men's ice hockey action this evening at Williams
Rink. The Bantams improve to 13-5 overall and 10-4 in the
NESCAC with the victory, while the Jumbos drop to 8-10-1 overall
and 4-9-1 in the league.
First-year forward Paul Jaskot (Methuen, Mass.)
got the scoring started for the Bantams with a goal late in the
first period, one that would prove to be the game-winner, getting
help from teammates, junior defenseman Ryan Crapser
(Paxton, Mass.) and sophomore forward Adam Houli
(Howell, N.J.). Houli finished with three assists on
the evening. Junior goaltender Joseph Hanson
(Weymouth, Mass.) relieved an injured Wesley Vesprini
(Lexington, Mass.) in net at the 3:52 mark for the Bantams, and
went on to collect 17 saves for the win.
The Tufts offense mustered just 21 shots, playing significant
minutes in the game shorthanded, serving a total of 29 penalty
minutes. The teams combined for 45 minutes in penalties.
Despite allowing three goals, Tufts junior goalkeeper Jay
McNamara (Weston, Mass.) had a strong game, racking up 50
saves, including several highlight stops. Hanson and Vesprini
combined for 21 saves and a shutout, the Bantams second of the
season, both coming against NESCAC opponents.
The Bantams return to action tomm., Sun. Feb. 8, against NESCAC
rival Connecticut College, at 4 p.m. at Williams Rink.
