Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore Rachel Romanowsky
(Hampstead, N.H.) scored four times to lead the Trinity
College Bantams to a 13-5 win over the visiting Bates College
Bobcats in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
women's lacrosse action this afternoon in a steady rain on Sheppard
Field. Trinity, ranked No. 9 in the nation, improves to 9-2
overall and 5-2 in the NESCAC with its second win in a row, while
the Bobcats fall to 7-5 overall and 3-4 in the league with their
first loss in three games.
Trinity scored three straight goals over the first 4:35 of the
second half to take a 5-2 lead, and outscored Bates, 7-0, over the
final 17:49 of the game after the Bobcats had pulled to within one
on a goal by senior co-captain midfielder Caroline Thomas
(Barrington, R.I.). Romanowsky converted a free
position 3:44 into the second stanza to begin the 3-0 spurt, and
junior midfielder Sarah Remes (Silver Spring, Md.)
did the same to ignite the 7-0 run that put the game out of
reach.
Bates used the combination of solid defense and goalkeeping and
a patient offense to secure a 2-2 tie at the break. Bobcat
junior attacker Molly Radis (Peaks Island, Maine)
opened the scoring 9:10 into the game, but Trinity answered with
back-to-back goals by junior attacker Jenn Calver (Barnard,
Vt.) and Romanowsky. Bates junior attacker
Molly Dilworth (Yarmouth, Maine) scored with 2:31
left in the first half to knot the game.
Trinity sophomore midfielder Alisen Urquhart (Redding,
Conn.) contributed two goals and one assist, while Calver
and senior Lauren Peck (Newton, Mass.) each scored
twice. Peck also paced Trinity with six ground balls, while
freshman goalie Gina Dinallo (West Hartford,
Conn.) made five saves in the Bantam goal. Trinity
outshot Bates, 38-14, and won 14 out of five draw controls.
Senior midfielder Brianna Gross (Andover, Mass.)
tallied a pair of assists and sophomore Mara Krueger (St.
Louis, Mo.) made 11 stops in goal for the
Bobcats.
