Hartford, Conn. - Senior Ryan Crapser (Paxton,
Mass.) scored with just 1:34 remaining on the clock to
bring the Trinity College Bantams back from a 2-0 deficit to tie
the No. 7 Middlebury College Panthers 2-2 this evening in New
England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's ice hockey
action at Koeppel Community Sports Center. Trinity is 6-4-2,
while Middlebury moves to 6-1-4.
The Panthers got off to a quick 1-0 start, courtesy of junior
Ken Suchoski (Bear Creek, Penn.), who was able to
find the back of the net just 3:22 into the game. After a
scoreless second period, the Panthers added a quick goal to open
the third, taking a 2-0 lead when freshman defenseman Chris
Steele (Revere, Mass.) scored 2:30 into the final
frame.
The Bantams answered three minutes later as freshman defender
Jeffrey Menard (Burlington, Mass.) beat Middlebury
senior goalkeeper Max Kennedy (Cazenovia, N.Y.) to
bring Trinity within a goal. The teams exchanged shots and
scoring opportunities until Crapser was able to tie the score in
the final two minutes.
Trinity junior goalkeeper Wesley Vesprini (Lexington,
Mass.) and Kennedy would not allow a game-winning goal to
get passed them for the remainder of regulation and in the five
minute overtime. Vesprini finished the game with 38
saves, while Kennedy made 21 for the Panthers.
Trinity has gone to overtime in its last two contests after
topping Skidmore College 2-1 last Sat. Middlebury has not
beat Trinity since January, 2007.
Trinity will host NESCAC rival Williams, ranked No. 10 in the
nation, tomorrow at 3 p.m.
