Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore Joe Tierney (Reading,
Mass.) scored the eventual game-winning goal and collected
an assist to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 4-1 win over the
No. 10 Williams College Ephs this afternoon in New England Small
College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's ice hockey action at the
Koeppel Community Sports Center. Trinity improves to 7-4-2
overall and 4-2-2 in the NESCAC, while Williams falls to 7-2-1 and
5-3 in the league.
Williams jumped ahead in the first period after freshman
Cody Skinner (Katy, Texas) found the back of the
net to put the Ephs up 1-0. Trinity senior co-captain
Richard Hollstein (Pembroke, Mass.) answered early
in the second period to tie the game at 1-1 before Tierney gave the
Bantams the lead for good with 6:36 remaining in the period.
In the final stanza, freshman Michael Blake (Wakefield,
Mass.), playing in just his fifth career game, scored his
first collegiate goal with 2:26 remaining on the clock to give the
Bantams a 3-1 edge. Williams pulled sophomore goalkeeper
Ryan Purdy (La Jolla, Calif.) until junior
Adam Houli (Howell, N.J.) scored an empty net
goal, his team-leading seventh goal of the season, and Trinity's
fourth of the afternoon. Houli and junior Matthew
Quigley (Pittsburgh, Penn.), who collected an assist this
afternoon, are tied for the team lead in points with 12
apiece.
Purdy finished the game with 31 saves while allowing three
goals, and junior Wesley Vesprini (Lexington,
Mass) made 25 stops in net for the Bantams.
Trinity will visit ECAC East rival St. Michael's on Fri., Jan.
22 at 7 p.m.
