Trinity Men's Ice Hockey Falls To St. Anselm

Hartford, Conn. -  Junior tri-captain forward Coleman Noonan (Norfolk, Mass.) notched two goals and one assist to lead the visiting St. Anselm College Hawks to a 5-3 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)/Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East men's ice hockey action this evening at the Koeppel Community Sports Center.  Trinity falls to 9-6-2 overall and 6-4-2 in the NESCAC, while the Hawks improve to 8-6-1 and 6-5-1 in the ECAC East.

St. Anselms scored four unanswered goals from 9:22 of the first period to 13:23 of the second period, and held on for the final 7:35 in the third frame after Trinity freshman forward Jeff Menard (Burlington, Mass.) scored to cut the lead to 4-3.  Noonan started the streak with an unassisted goal, followed by a power-play tally by freshman forward Mike Richard (Derry, N.H.) with 3:19 left in the first.  Noonan struck again 5:51 into the second stanza with a short-handed score, and sophomore forward Michael DeVita (Annandale, N.J.) completed the run with 6:37 remaining before the second intermission.

Trinity, which had opened the scoring 3:09 into the first period on a power-play one-timer by sophomore forward Joe Tierney (Reading, Mass.), broke its scoring drought with 3:55 left in the second period on a quick move left-to-right in front of the goal by senior captain forward Richard Hollstein (Pembroke, Mass.).  Bantam junior defenseman Regnars Alksnis (Talsi, Latvia) and Hollstein provided assists on Menard's goal to cut the lead to one, but the Hawks fought Trinity off the rest of the way including almost a full-minute of a 6-on-4 opportunity for the home team.  Freshman forward Tim King (Weymouth, Mass.) scored an empty-netter to ice it for the Hawks in the final minute.

Trinity junior goaltender Wesley Vesprini (Lexington, Mass.) finished with 27 saves, while Hawk junior netminder Alex Wyse (Amherst, N.Y.) had 35 stops including 16 in the second period.  Alksnis and junior forward Adam Houli (Howell, N.J.) recorded two helpers apiece for the Bantams.
