Hartford, Conn. - Junior forward Adam Houli
(Howell, N.J.) scored the game's only two goals and
classmate Wesley Vesprini (Lexington, Mass.)
earned a shutout in net with 30 saves to lead the Trinity College
Bantams to a 2-0 win over the visiting New England College Pilgrims
in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)/Eastern
College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East men's ice hockey action
this afternoon at the Koeppel Community Sports Center.
Trinity improves to 10-6-2 overall and 7-4-2 in the NESCAC, while
the Pilgrims drop to 8-9-2 overall and 4-7-2 in the ECAC
East.
After a scoreless first period that saw the Bantams outshoot the
Pilgrims, 14-5, Trinity broke the stalemate with a nifty move that
beat New England College junior goaltender Aaron Harvey
(Milford, Nova Scotia) over his right shoulder from junior
defenseman Regnars Alksnis (Talsi, Latvia) and
sophomore Joe Tierney (Reading, Mass.) at 10:14 of
the second period.
Vesprini remained brilliant in net throughout the second and
third periods despite increased offensive pressure by the Pilgrims,
stopping 14 shots in the second stanza and 11 more in the final
frame. Tierney and senior captain forward Richard
Hollstein (Pembroke, Mass.) fed Houli on an empty-net
tally in the final minute to account for the 2-0 final score.
Harvey made 40 stops in a valiant effort despite the loss.
