Hartford, Conn. - Freshman defender Britney Ryan
(Highlands Ranch, Colo.) notched a goal and an assist to
lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 5-1 victory over the visiting
Williams College Ephs in New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action this afternoon at
Williams Rink. Trinity, ranked No. 8 in the nation, improves
to 9-1-2 overall and 4-1-2 in the NESCAC with its sixth win in a
row, while the Ephs fall to 4-4-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the
league.
The Trinity defense, led by Ryan, junior Laura Komarek
(Plymouth, Minn.), sophomore Dominique DiDia
(Studio City, Calif.), and freshman Hillary
McNamara (Milton, Mass.) held Williams to just four shots
on goal in each of the first two periods and without a shot for the
opening 11:38 of the game. Bantam senior tri-captain
Isabel Iwachiw (New York, N.Y.) needed to make
just 14 saves between the pipes, while the Trinity offense peppered
Williams senior tri-captain goaltender Sara Plunkett
(Barrington, R.I.) with 44 shots.
Trinity scored 3:44 into the contest on a slapshot from the left
wing by sophomore forward Payson Sword (Princeton,
N.J.) and added another first-period goal on a rebound by
junior forward Alexa Guglielmi (Rocky Hill, Conn.)
at theb16:42 mark. Ryan wristed in her first career tally
from the left wing on a power-play opportunity to give Trinity a
3-0 lead midway through the second frame, but Williams sophomore
forward Kristen Tubbs (Garden City, N.Y.)
deflected the initial shot by classmate Kate Foley
(Billerica, Mass.) past Iwachiw to put the Ephs on the
board with 4:28 left before the final break. The Bantams put
the game out of reach immediately after the second intermission on
a goal by junior forward Jill Roloff (West Seneca,
N.Y.) and freshman forward Chelsea Campbell
(Surrey, British Columbia) added her first career tally
late in the third to round out the scoring. Komarek and
junior tri-captain forward Kim Weiss (Potomac,
Md.) collected a pair of assists apiece for Trinity, while
Plunkett finished with 39 stops in goal for Williams.
