Brunswick, Maine - The Bowdoin College Polar Bear women's soccer
team defeated the visiting Trinity College Bantams, 3-0, in a
New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's
soccer action this afternoon on Pickard Field. Trinity falls
to 5-3-4 overall and 3-3-2 in the NESCAC, while Bowdoin secured a
spot in the NESCAC Tournament at 3-4-1 in the league and improve to
6-5-2 overall. Trinity has a three-game winless streak and
has not scored a goal over its last 298 minutes of play. The
Bantams have qualified for the NESCAC Tournament and could earn a
first-round home game on Oct. 31 with a win in its season finale at
Amherst on Friday.
Bowdoin wasted little time jumping ahead on Saturday afternoon,
as a give-and-go between Celeste Swain and Ellery Gould resulted in
a shot from just outside the box from Gould that sailed over
the head of Trinity senior GK Emily Weedon
(Wellesley, Mass.) and into the left side of the net at 4:32.
The Polar Bears doubled their lead shortly before intermission as
first-year back Becky Krakora took a pass from Stacie Sammott and
snuck a shot past Weeden for her first career goal at 42:48.
Bowdoin clinched the win in the 67th minute when Christina
Aceto
finished off a scramble in front of the net. Bowdoin's Kat
Flaherty saved nine shots in the victory while Weeden and junior Lily Pepper
(Princeton Junction, N.J.) made three saves apiece for Trinity.
