Hartford, Conn. – Trinity senior captain forward Kim Weiss (Potomac, Md.) scored with :53 seconds remaining in regulation as the Trinity College Bantams came back to tie the visiting Amherst College Lord Jeffs 2-2 in New England Small College Athletics Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action this afternoon at Williams Rink. Trinity, ranked No. 8 in the nation, is 3-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the NESCAC, while the No. 3-ranked Lord Jeffs are 3-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the league.
The goal by Weiss was the 84th point of her career, giving her Trinity's all-time scoring record, after a scoring change was reflected following yesterday's game in which Weiss tied the all-time record. Weiss tops the previous record of 83 points set by Michelle Chee'09.
After a scoreless opening period, the Lord Jeffs tallied two goals in the second period, courtesy of senior tri-captain Courtney Hanlon (Fullerton, Calif.) and junior Stephanie Clegg (Woburn, Mass.), taking a 2-0 advantage over the Bantams. The Lord Jeffs outshot the Bantams 19-8 in the opening two periods, and 32-18 in the game.
Midway through the third period, Trinity first-year Lauren Glynn (Westwood, Mass.) scored her first career collegiate goal, which cut the Amherst lead to 2-1. With time running thin, Weiss tied the game with her fifth goal of the season, with just :53 seconds showing remaining on the clock in regulation, giving her teammates much to celebrate about. After a scoreless overtime, the game would end in a draw.
First-year goaltender Alexa Pujol (New Canaan, Conn.) made 30 saves for the Bantams, while junior Sinead Murphy (Rochester, Minn.) came up with 17 stops for the Lord Jeffs.
