Hartford, Conn. - Junior defenseman Brendan Reich
(Montvale, N.J.) scored two goals to lead the Bowdoin
College Polar Bears to a 4-2 win over the Trinity College Bantams
in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's ice
hockey action this evening at the Koeppel Community Sports Center.
Trinity falls to 12-7-2 overall and 9-5-2 in the league while
the Polar Bears, ranked No. 15 in the nation, improve to 14-5-1 and
a league best 11-4-1.
Reich wasted no time giving Bowdoin a lead, scoring 2:03 into
the contest, and adding his second goal later in the first period,
both power play goals. Senior Ryan Blossom (Concord,
N.H.) added another for the Polar Bears early in the
second period, giving Bowdoin a 3-0 lead.
Trinity junior forward Adam Houli (Howell,
N.J.) would score his team-best 14th goal of
the season late in the second period to cut the Bowdoin lead to
3-1. Late in the third period, the Bantams would add another
goal, courtesy of freshman forward Jordan So (Toronto,
Ontario), bringing Trinity within a score.
Junior defenseman Kyle Shearer-Hardy (Montreal,
Quebec) dashed Trinity's bid at a comeback with a goal at
the 12:30 mark in the final frame. Trinity would pull junior
goalkeeper Wesley Vesprini (Lexington, Mass.) in
the final frame, but it wouldn't matter, as the Polar Bears held on
to their two-goal lead and skated off with their third straight
win.
Vesprini and Bowdoin senior goalkeeper Christopher Rossi
(Barrington, R.I.) each finished the game with 34
saves. Bowdoin freshman Daniel Weiniger (Warren,
N.J.) racked up three assists in the game for the Polar
Bears.
