Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore forward Celia
Colman-McGaw (Manchester, Conn.) notched two goals for the
third consecutive game to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 3-0
victory over the visiting Hamilton College Continentals in New
England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's ice
hockey action this afternoon at Williams Rink. Trinity,
ranked No. 5 in the nation, improves to 19-3-2 overall and 11-3-2
in the NESCAC with its fifth consecutive victory, while the
Continentals drop to 11-10-3 overall and 5-8-3 in the league.
First-year Britney Ryan (Highlands Ranch,
Colo.) scored less than three minutes into the game to
give senior tri-captain Isabel Iwachiw (New York,
N.Y.) and the Trinity defense all the support they would
need, as Trinity was able to blank their opponent for a record
ninth time, Iwachiw's seventh shutout of the season.
The second period belonged to Colman-McGaw, who found the back
of the net twice in just over two minutes, for her fifth and sixth
goals in her last three games. Colman-McGaw finished the
regular season with a team-high 16 goals, eight of which coming in
the final five games of the season.
Iwachiw finished the game with 31 saves for the shutout while
Hamilton goalkeeper, first-year Becca Hazlett (Grosse
Pointe Park, Mich.) made 20 saves and senior
Meghan Shine (Duxbury, Mass.) made seven saves for
the Continentals.
With the win, Trinity breaks yet another school record - for
wins in a season (19) - and will head into the NESCAC Championship
Tournament as the No. 2-seed. Trinity will face No.7-seed
Connecticut College on Sat., Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. The game will
be webcast live on athletics.trincoll.edu.
