Waterville, Maine - The visiting Trinity College Bantams
won a battle of unbeatens and top-10 teams against the Colby
College Mules with an 8-7 win in New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) women's lacrosse actuion this afternoon on Bill
Alfond Field. Trinity, ranked No. 6 in the nation, stays
flawless at 4-0 overall amd 3-0 in the NESCAC, while No.
7-ranked Colby drops to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the league.
Trinity led, 5-1, at halftime, but the Mules battled back
and tied the game at 7-7 when Tess Petesch (Rockville,
Md.) scored with 7:53 left in the game off an assist from
Lucy Gerrity(Cumberland, Maine). The Bantams
answered with the game-winning goal by
freshman Megan Leonhard (Summit, N.J.) with
5:36 to play off a pass from senior captain Sarah Remes
(Silver Spring, Md.), and Trinity possessed the ball for
the majority of the remainder of play.
Sophomore midfielder Liz Bruno (Andover, Mass.)
had one goal, a game-high six caused turnovers, and four
groundballs. Remes had two goals and one assist, junior midfielder
Rachel Romanowsky (Hampstead, N.H.) had two goals
in the opening three minutes to spark the early Bantam
lead, and senior attacker Kristin Phelps
(Sudbury, Mass.) had one goal and one assist.
Petesch had two goals and one assist to lead the Mules. Gerrity
added one goal and one assist, while Amy Campbell (North
Andover, Mass.) dished two assists. Sophomore
Gina Dinallo (West Hartford, Conn.) stopped seven
shots in her season debut in goal for Trinity, while Sarah
Warnke (Lakeville, Conn.) finished with 11 saves for
Colby.
