Springfield, Mass. - The visiting Trinity College Bantams
defeated the Springfield College Pride, 11-9, in women's lacross
eaction this evening. Trinity, ranked No. 5 in the nation,
improves to 9-1, while the Pride falls to 6-5 with its third loss
in a row.
The Bantams opened the game with four consecutive goals in the
opeing 6:23 as they received goals from Alisen Urquhart, Sarah
Remes, Caitlin Irvine, and Rachel Romanowsky to hold a 4-0
advantage. Jackie Moscardelli finally netted
Springfield's first goal of the game as she fired home a feed
from Meagan Dobson at the 19:37 mark. Dobson then pumped in a
goal of her own as she took advantage of an Erin Doolan pass 1:12
later. Romanowsky and Irvine tallied the game's next two
goals as the Bantams lead increased to 6-2 with 11:35 on the clock.
Allie Bazzano and Allie Davis sandwiched a Liz Bruno goal to close
out the half as Trinity went into halftime with a 7-4 advantage.
Trinity took control of the game in the second half as it opened
up with three-straight goals to take a 10-4 lead with 21:32
remaining in regulation, capped off by another Remes goal. However,
from there on, the Pride put forth a spirited rally, netting four
straight goals over an eight minute stretch to close within two at
10-8. Individual efforts spearheaded the run as Doolan, Dobson, and
Bazzano all registered unassisted strikes before Doolan tacked on a
free-position goal with 10:35 remaining, forcing a Trinity timeout.
Out of the break, the Bantams wasted no time regaining a
three-goal advantage as Romanowsky connected with Irvine just 19
seconds after the restart to give the visitors a 11-8 lead. Meghan
Flanagan slotted home a free-position strike with 3:21 left in what
would prove to be the final goal of the game.
Romanowsky finished with six points off two goals and four
assists to go along with four draw controls, while Irvine tallied
four goals. Gina Dinallo totaled seven saves in the game, five of
which came in the second half. For the Pride, Doolan and
Dobson each tallied two goals and an assist, while Bazzano added
two goals. Lauren McAulay stopped 13 shots between the pipes for
SC, as she limited Trinity to just 1-of-5 on free-position
attempts.
