Middletown, Conn. - Junior attacker Caitlin Irvine
(Westwood, Mass.) scored six goals and added a pair of
assists, including three in the first half, to lead the visiting
Trinity College Bantams to a 16-8 win over the Wesleyan University
Cardinals in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
women's lacrosse action this afternoon. Trinity, ranked No. 4
in the nation, improves to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the NESCAC, while
the Cardinals drop to 2-7 overall and 0-5 in the league with their
sixth consecutive loss. The win was the 300th in
the 36-year history of the Trinity women's lacrosse
program. The Bantams are 300-137-5 for a .686 winning
percentage since the varsity program began in 1975.
Wesleyan scored first, but Trinity scored the next seven goals
and enjoyed as much as an 11-goal advantage during the game.
First-years Megan Leonhard (Summit, N.J.) and
Kaitlin Hildebrand (Berwyn, Pa.) each added a
hat trick for the winners, while senior Jennifer Calver
(Barnard, Vt.) also had a three-point game with two goals
and a helper, and junior Rachel Romanowsky (Hampstead,
N.H.) notched a goal and an assist. Wesleyan was led
by junior Allie Lynch, who had a goal and three assists, while
junior Jess Chukwu hit the twine twice. Each team scored half
its goals on free-position shots. Wesleyan goalie
sophomore Maggie Drowica notched nine stops in the contest.
Sophomore starter Stephanie Fisher (Brunswick,
Maine) made four saves and earned the win in goal.
