Gettysburg, Pa. – Sophomore attacker Hannah Church
(Ellicott City, Md.) notched three goals and four assists
to lead the Gettysburg College Bullets to a 17-3 victory over the
visiting Trinity College Bantams in the quarterfinals of the NCAA
Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament this
afternoon on Clark Field. The Bantams, ranked No. 8 in the nation,
close the 2010 season with a College-record 15 wins against four
losses, and win two games in the NCAA Tournament for the first
time, but fall short in the NCAA Quarters for the fourth time in as
many appearances. No. 4-ranked Gettysburg improves to 18-3 and
advances to the NCAA Final Four for the fourth time in the last
five years. The Bullets will face Salisbury University in the NCAA
Semifinals on Saturday. Trinity falls to 0-3 all-time against
Gettysburg, including a 13-8 loss on the road in the 2007 NCAA
Second Round, and is now 4-6 in six appearances in the NCAA
Tourney.
Trinity senior tri-captain attacker Jenn Calver
(Barnard, Vt.) opened the scoring with a bouncer on a
free-position 2:58 into the game, but the Bantams failed on all six
of their remaining free-position tries in the half while
surrendering nine first-half goals for a 9-1 deficit at the break.
Bullet senior midfielder Hollis Stahl (Hightstown,
N.J.) tied the game at 1-1 at the 26:44 mark, winning the
draw and taking the ball down the field and around the cage before
shooting high past Trinity sophomore goalie Stephanie
Fisher (Brunswick, Maine). Freshman attacker
Lindsey Robinson (Potomac, Md.) gave Gettysburg
the lead for good with 24:07 on the clock, bouncing the ball past
Fisher after a pass by senior midfielder Jessica Crane
(Sudbury, Mass.). Crane fed fellow senior Lauren
Woodman (Denver, Colo.) in traffic for the next Bullet
goal that started a streak of four scores for the home team in a
2:03 span. Gettysburg continued to control the game in the second
stanza, scoring eight more times before Bantam sophomore midfielder
Liz Bruno (Andover, Mass.) scored from senior
attacker Kristin Phelps (Sudbury, Mass.) with a
minute left and junior midfielder Alisen Urquhart (Redding,
Conn.) converted on a free psoition 16 seconds later to
account for the 17-3 final tally.
Gettysburg outshot Trinity, 30 to 14, while Stahl and Woodman
each scored four times to lead all goal scorers, and senior goalie
Kristen Krammer (Woodbine, Md.) made eight saves.
Fisher had one save and sophomore Gina Dinallo (West
Hartford, Conn.) stopped three shots in relief in the
Bantam goal. Trinity freshman defender Joy Finnen (Chatham,
N.J.) recorded game-highs of four ground balls and four
caused turnovers, and Bruno paced the Bantams in ground balls with
three.
"Gettysburg got off to a fast start, although we did score the
first goal, and after that there defense was stifling," said
Trinity Head Coach Kate Livesay (4th Season). "It
was really a fantastic season with great senior leadership. I am
very proud of this team and all that they were able to accomplish."
