New London, Conn. – The Williams College Ephs earned a 3-1
win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College
Athletic Conference (NESCAC) volleyball action this afternoon at
Connecticut College. Trinity, ranked No. 4 in New England,
falls to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the NESCAC.
Trinity took a 12-6 lead in the first set, and padded its
advantage to 22-13 en route to a 25-19 victory and a 1-0 advantage
in the match. Williams rebounded with a 7-2 run to start the
second set, and led, 16-7, before the Bantams scored 13 of the next
19 points to pull within two at 22-20. Williams withstood the
rally and took the second set, 25-21. With the third set tied
at 12-12, Williams scored four out of six points to go ahead, 18-4,
before taking control of the set with a 25-17 win that gave them a
2-1 lead in the match. Trinity responded with a 13-3 spurt to
open the fourth set, including four out of five consecutive points
on service aces by senior tri-captain senior RS Kristen
Anderson (West Haven, Conn.), but the Ephs turned the tables on
the set and the match with an 18-6 run to tie the set at 21-21, and
scored the next four points for a 25-21 win in the set and a 3-1
win in the match.
Sophomore OH Danielle Isaman
(West Hartford, Conn.) paced Trinity with 16 kills and added a pair
of service aces, while Anderson totaled 12 kills, five aces, and 15
digs, while handling all 24 of her receiving attempts.
Trinity junior S Jen Low (San Francisco, Calif.) notched 40 assists
and two aces, while junior tri-captain L Sarah Blagden
(Charleston, S.C.) contributed 30 digs, and junior MH Courtney
Chaloff (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) made four blocks.
