Shellington Goal In Final Second Gives Trinity Men's Ice Hockey Win at New England College

Henniker, N.H.— Senior Benjamin Shellington (Hanover, Mass.) scored the game-winning in the final second to lift the visiting Trinity College Bantams over the New England College Pilgrims, 5-4, in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)/Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East men's ice hockey action this afternoon.  The Bantams improve to 6-8-3 overall, while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 6-11-2 on the season.

Trinity did not waste any time getting going as Michael DiCenso (Greenville, R.I.) struck just 1:03 into the game from Sean McCarthy (Duxbury, Mass.)  Trinity extended its lead to 2-0 at the 8:12 mark as McCarthy converted on a Bantam power-play assisted by Regnars Alksnis (Talsi, Latvia).

The Trinity offense continued to put on the pressure and recorded its third goal of the afternoon at the 6:57 mark in the second period as Matthew Quigley (Pittsburgh, Pa.) notched the goal.  Niko Uola (Turku, Finland) got the Pilgrims on the board just under a minute later from Richard Ledy (Marquette, Mich.) and Aki Uola (Turku, Finland.).  The Pilgrims cut the lead to 3-2 late in the second as Uola put in a power-play goal assisted by Johan Qvarfordt (Sodertalje, Sweden) and Bill McGinnis (Williams Lake, B.C.).

NEC tied the game at 3-3 early in the third as Brett DiClementi (Southwick, Mass.) fired in a shot assisted by Artur Kocheuv (Saint Petersburg, Russia) just 5:32 into the period.  Trinity responded quickly as Joe Tierney (Reading, Mass.) rebounded in a Mike DeMayo (Seaford, N.Y.) shot just under two minutes later.  NEC's Qvarfordt scored at the 13:19 mark tying the game at 4-4 with under seven to play, but Shellington came up huge for the Bantams, tapping in a loose puck with just 1.5 seconds on the clock.  Picking up the win in net for Trinity was Wesley Vesprini (Lexington, Mass.), who finished with 28 saves.  In goal for NEC was Aaron Harvey (Milford, Nova Scotia) who recorded 38 saves on the evening.
