Hartford, Conn. – Senior captain forward Kim Weiss (Potomac, Md.) scored both of the game's goals, the first making her the only Trinity women's ice hockey player to reach 100 points in her career, leading the Trinity College Bantams to a 2-0 win over the visiting Colby College Mules in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action this evening on Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center. Trinity, ranked No. 9 in the nation, improves to 13-3-4 overall and 6-3-3 in the NESCAC with its second victory in a row, avenging a 1-0 loss to the Mules three weeks ago. Colby falls to 7-14 overall and 3-10 in the league with its fourth consecutive defeat.
After a scoreless first period, Weiss made history with a redirection of a shot from just outside the left face-off circle by fellow senior captain Laura Komarek (Plymouth, Minn.) that soared over the left shoulder of Mule rookie goalie Brianne Wheeler (Brussels, Ontario) 8:20 into the second frame. Weiss smacked the puck in from in front of the Mule crease 44 seconds into the third period to complete the night's scoring, increasing her career point totals to 58 goals (already a College record) and 43 assists for 101 points.
Bantam sophomore blueliner Britney Ryan (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and junior forward Celia Colman-McGaw (Manchester, Conn.) each added assists, while Trinity first-year netminder Alexa Pujol (New Canaan, Conn.) finished with 30 saves. Both Trinity goals came on power plays. Colby's closest chance to score on Pujol came 5:05 into the third period when she came way out to stop a Mule breakaway and a second Colby shot coasted just right of the empty net. Wheeler finished with 31 saves for Colby.
